Chinese companies, such as Lenovo and China National Offshore Oil Company, made headlined news in their acquisition of IBM and other resource based entities in North America. The PRC's Company Law was extensively revamped in 2005 to bring about better governance and minority shareholders' protection. |

This timely course in English was introduced to post graduate students for the first time in autumn 2006. Due to the overwhelming response, a supplementary course was held in spring 2007 (March/April). English and other common law cases were introduced to provide an understanding of the key principles of English Company Law (including Mergers and Acquisitions). |

Major issues in English Company law, such as corporate actions and ultra vires , corporate management, duties and liabilities of company directors, independent directorship, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions in China and common law jurisdictions were covered. |

Post graduate students also made comparative studies on such key principles in English Company law with Chinese Company law. Students who completed the 36 hour course and sat successively for a written examination would be given a certificate awarded by the Faculty of Law, Renmin University.
